Every so often, I’d realize something so profoundly simple, yet so powerful and motivating…Anyone know what I’m talking about? It’s those moments where I philosophize and firmly establish in my mind that a particular principle is one of the major keys to success in anything area of life. This kind of on-going self-learning is especially crucial for an online marketing entrepreneur.
These are not the moments where you merely read some good idea from a motivator and try to memorize what they say verbatim. But rather, it’s when you actually have an epiphany of some sort, and truly realize from the inside out that, wow, this is how it really works in life, and thus I must put this principle into action.
Principle #1:
Sometimes we need to purposefully put ourselves in a situation that will FORCE us to work smarter and harder in our entrepreneural endeavors.
Personal Example:
When I first started my printing supplies business Tonerall.com back in 2002, I was working out of my bedroom in my parents’ house. I felt very unmotivated and did not feel like the “work at home blues” helped me to move forward at all, and no matter how hard I tried, I was not able to break through. Then the idea of getting an office/warehouse in order to FORCE myself to work harder came to me. Besides the benefits that would come from having a professional place to work from, and be able to do some light remanufacturing and warehousing to increase my profit margin, I liked the fact that an extra $1300 per month expense would REALLY motivate me to kick things in high gear. It did. While I had this warehouse my sales went up to just under $300,000 in 2004.
Constantly being aware of what motivates us to do what we really want to do is really key to getting those results we want. Self-understanding is a powerful thing!
