Toll free phone numbers are great. You know the 800, 888, 877, 866 type of numbers. They are synonymous with established, legitimate companies.
In the old days (80s-90s), these numbers were quite expensive and were out of reach for the little guys. Needless to say the mom and pop mail order companies didn’t get them because of the cost both in setup, monthly fees, and most importantly the outrageous per minute charges!
Fortunately, as technology in the telecom industry has advanced at the speed of light, the prices have come down for toll free services, if you know where to look.
A few years ago I found a service that sets me up with a toll free number that I pick (yes you can even get a vanity number if you want), a full featured control panel that let’s be create fancy and useful menus for the callers, and internet or phone access to make changes. After a heck of a lot of research, I ended up at what I believe to be the best bang for the buck and I’ve never looked back.
The coolest part of this service, is that I get to have my toll free number ring any phone I want. And since I’m on the go a lot, I just have it forwarded to my cell phone. Now you might be asking, how do I know who’s calling and how to answer the phone? Easy, I simply set up my service to show my toll free number as the caller ID whenever I receive a call so I always know how to address who I’m talking to.
Also, when done right, the menus you create will filter out a lot of unnecessary calls as you can instruct the callers verbally (prerecorded) to a particular action or tell them to check out what they are looking for online, and also send them to voicemails whenever you see fit. The possibilities are really endless. Oh did I mention, the best thing is that the plan starts at less than $10 a month, and that already comes with 100 minutes of domestic incoming calls?
